Birds of a Feather collection

Alma Thomas taught art in Washington DC while painting, large abstract canvases in her kitchen. As a black female painting geometric shapes, she was disregarded by galleries. Alma continue to paint, she painted the wind, the sound of leaves, bold, and vibrant, for five decades. In 1971 the Whitney Museum of American art in New York City offered Alma a solo retrospective – the first African-American female to receive one. Alma was 80.
