  • SUSAN CURRIER ARTIST BIO AND STATEMENT
After extensive studies at Ringling College of Art & Design in Sarasota, Florida, I explored my creativity across many disciplines, including black-and-white photography, oil painting, and jewelry design.

In early 2017, I returned to my first love: drawing. My studio is located on the central east coast of Florida, near the Sebastian River, nestled in an oak hammock surrounded by farms. It felt natural to draw what I observed in my environment, the beginning of my love for drawing domesticated animals. Now, when traveling, both in the US and abroad, I find the time to sketch and photograph my subjects, then returning to my studio, I crank up the music and draw.

I am particularly drawn to the movement and personality of the animals. I aim to evoke a vivid sense of presence through bold, expressive lines, bringing their spirit to life on the paper. My technique is a blend of various media, including charcoal, ink, pencil, gesso, and pastel. The combination allows me to explore different textures and depths.

My work has been exhibited extensively throughout the southern United States, including gallery shows and a solo exhibition at the Anita S. Wooten Gallery at Valencia College East Campus in Orlando, FL.
