  • Mindy Farbrother has been involved with the arts in a variety of forms her entire life.
After a career working as a Broadway Stage Manager in NYC, she found her way to Asheville and western North Carolina. It is a dream come true and a complete change of pace from the hustle and bustle of city life. Mindy became interested in learning to make pottery while still working in New York. After she moved to Asheville in 2015 she began taking classes at The Village Potters, where she learned
from several teachers to experiment with the many ways to work with clay. After forays into raku, throwing and hand building, Mindy settled on designing lighting and lamps. Early in her theater career she studied lighting design and now feels she has come full circle as a lamp designer. Making lamps has become her passion as a form of functional art. As an homage to her past career in theater and a nod to her second life chapter, she chose the name Act II Pottery.
She is currently working to incorporate unique shapes and objects into her work, leaning toward the forest that she now calls home.

    Artist mission statement
The first time I watched a potter throwing a bowl on the wheel I was fascinated. It was many years later when I retired that I had time to seek out a pottery class where I could try my luck on the wheel, but it only took a minute to know I found my calling. I loved the feel and smell of wet clay and the possibilities seemed endless. My first love was raku. The use of fire and smoke and lots of combustibles helped create magic every time. But after awhile I was drawn to hand building pieces and making them serve a purpose. Functional art is how I see my lamps. The light helps to enhance the piece. I am grateful to all of the potters who helped me improve along the way. My art is a journey and one that I can’t get enough of.
