Metalsmith L. Jill Howell resides in Western North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains. She graduated from the Haywood Community College Professional Crafts Metals (Jewelry) Program in 2022 and was juried into the Southern Highland Craft Guild in 2024.

Her handcrafted jewelry is based on stories gathered from her more than 30 years of nursing experience. To create one-of-a-kind jewelry, Jill frequently combines natural materials, gemstones, precious and semi-precious metals, and found objects with their history and narrative. In her story-related designs, she extensively uses iconographic pictures and symbols. These are often created by using a jeweler's saw to cut the images into metal. The stories of powerful women are the subject of her most recent work.

She attends juried maker events in North Carolina and participates in local holiday craft markets.
