  • 2024 Bio - Brenda Orcutt
For many years Brenda Orcutt has painted using traditional brush techniques. It wasn’t until 2008, when she was trained in oil painting with a palette knife, that a dramatic shift occurred in her painting style. The artist was inspired by the texture and purity of color that the technique produced. This unique, expressive method has been well received by the public!
Brenda attributes nature as one of her most valuable inspirations. Always an outdoor enthusiast, she has a naturalist biology degree. The artist has studied with numerous leading studio and landscape painters, learning many valuable lessons that helped her to develop her remarkable style. She particularly enjoys exploring how to create landscapes and still lifes using an impressionistic approach. More recently, she has circled back to her roots in the Western North Carolina mountains and enjoys revisiting brushwork techniques while interpreting the natural beauty of terrain.
Having raised her family in Charleston SC, Brenda and her husband are enjoying a transition period of building their forever home in Asheville. While still in the Lowcountry, the artist has opportunities to paint outdoors by the tidal marshes and waterways. Her art studio provides workspace for setting up a still life, or experimentation with oil paint and her favorite palette knife. She has been a proud small business owner of Orcutt Fine Art since 2009. Ongoing training opportunities and travels continue to inspire the artist. She has maintained annual support of The Nature Conservancy, the Natural Resources Defense Fund and the SC Aquarium. Longstanding memberships include Oil Painters of America, American Impressionist Society and American Women Artists.
